When using date formats in Drupal you have a number of options. CCK’s date field allows you to create a custom field on a content node for a date, similar to the existing post date available. When displaying the field, and the post date field, in a template file or in a view you have date format options available in the main administration system, such as long, medium and short, plus a custom date format option. Here you can display dates in a custom format using the table above. For example D d F will display Mon 30 January.
